Why are Top Makeup Companies Switching to Tube Packaging?

A- A A+

It’s a new year, and we’re starting to see new trends emerge in the beauty industry from some of the world’s top makeup brands. Charlotte Tillbury recently came out with their ‘Beautiful Skin’ foundation that comes in a gold tube casing and has a pump. Rihanna’s continuously escalating makeup company Fenty Beauty uses a sleek tube for its Longwear Foundation. IT Cosmetics and their best-selling CC+ cream, ‘Your Skin But Better,’ is known for its simple and effective tube packaging. In fact, if you look on Sephora’s website, you’ll see the first 5 foundations listed on their product page come in squeezy-tube packaging.

It doesn’t stop heremany retail cosmetics companies are launching more products in squeeze-tube packages. As a frequent consumer of beauty products and a lover of all things beauty, I was curious to know whether there are any real advantages to buying makeup in tube containers, rather than any other standard packaging (glass vessels, bottles, and so forth.) It came as no surprise to find out that yesthere are advantages to tube packaged productsand many are obvious once you take the time to think about it.

The Number 1 Reason Why Brands are Switching to Tube Packages

If something is better for the environment then that’s a reason on its own for companies to adopt the practice, not just when it comes to tube packaging. This is by far the best reason for any company handling CPG to switch to tubes. There’s no question that the consumer demand for eco-friendly and sustainable practices has risen astronomically, especially in the new year.

This is genuinely encouraging news, and it tells us that companies are listening to consumer demands and desires, if not voluntarily then from desperation. There are tons of blog posts that talk about this at length. I read a few and consistently found one of the biggest e-commerce and commercial trends in 2022  is the move towards more sustainable business practices.

Squeeze-Tube Packaging is Simply Better for the Environment.

As I’m sure you would guess, the adoption of sustainable practices is way more critical in some industries than others. Tech is an industry that probably consumes less plastic than on average than, say, the beauty and cosmetics industry. Luckily, the New York Times style magazine said that beauty brands are starting to drastically cut down on their consumption of plastic in packaging their products.

So, if you’re a product lover like me, then you should also do your best to support companies that adopt ethical and sustainable behaviour. Supporting positive corporate change and ethical behavior is the only way we’re going to make progress on our environmental goals!

So how exactly is squeeze-tube packaging better for the environment than other types of packaging?

Squeezy-Tubes are Made with More Eco-Friendly Materials

Sustainable innovations have led to more eco-friendly materials for beauty companies to reduce their carbon footprint. The beauty industry has skyrocketed in sales over the past years, and so the amount of waste produced as a result has also increased. Reports have said that the beauty industry is responsible for contributing 7.9 billion rigid plastic packaging units per year in the US alone. This is a staggering amount, and so companies are feeling the pressure to adopt better practices.

Many squeeze-tube packages use finer materials that are lightweight, have thinner walls and overall consume less plastic. Our tube packages reduce up to 55% of materials typically used with standard packaging.

Consumers and customers recognize corporate responsibility and effort, so these efforts to enhance sustainability are commendable and acknowledged! With massive conglomerates like Loreal paving the way, we can be sure to see other companies follow suit. More and more eco-focused packaging companies are starting to crop. We have used PCR since 2008 and Bio-resin from 2018.

Squeeze Tubes Help to Reduce Product Waste.

If you’re anything like me, you like to get every last drop of makeup that’s left in the container. Buying makeup nowadays has gotten to be so expensive that I feel like I’m being ripped off if I don’t extract every last bit. I also don’t like it when things go to waste.

The nice thing about squeeze tube containers is that you can squeeze every last drop out of the container, and get your real money’s worth. Oftentimes with glass containers or other concealer-type products, it’s really hard to get to the edges and scrape the remaining product when you’re starting to run low. Here’s a pro-tip, if you’re trying to be frugal like me.

Pro-tip: to get every last drop out of your product, cut off the end of the package to scrape out any remaining product.

Squeeze-Tubes are  More Efficient

Another advantage of squeeze tubes, especially from the consumer POV,  is that they are way easier to store and travel with than conventional makeup items. Anytime my wife travels with glass products or eye palettes, the first thing my wife do when she arrives at the destination is to check her makeup bag and see if all her products survived the trip. It’s happened before where something will break, or splatter, and she's left with a huge mess and waste of makeup.

With tube packages, she doesn’t ever worry about them breaking, and they are malleable and more lightweight than other packaging products, so they won’t add much weight to your luggage either.

When it comes to storing her makeup, she also way prefer tube products to other products. They’re easier to put neatly put away in a drawer or makeup cabinet. They don’t take up as much space, and she can easily toss them into her makeup bag whenever she's on the go.

There are tons of advantages to switching over to squeeze-tube products, both from the consumer and retail standpoint. There’s also not much of a reason not to make the switch since it’s a huge benefit to the environment as well.
